Day 17 - 8/4 - Black Canyon of the Gunnison - on our way to Denver

Painted Walls

Black cloud followed us in, again.
Cold rainy, windy, brutal. And us in our shorts and sandals.
Kayla wouldn't even exit the car.
What a shame too, this place was really cool.
1/2 mile deep, and in the narrows it was only as wide as the visitor center.
Truly a canyon carved by the Gunnison River.
Crazy tunnel, think they have a rock slide problem there?

I was a little late with the picture, but this amazed us.
We are at an elevation of 9400ft and climbing, the top was 10,600ft, and
this guy (and others along the way) are riding their bikes(!) up the mountain?
I can't even imagine it! Even more incredible, these roads are crazy: switchbacks,
no guard rails, no shoulder, straight down....... I am assuming they are
training for something, could a person really do this just for fun?
